About

Tree of Life Counseling

The Short Version:

Owner Andrea Lantz is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a unique skill set gained from years working in palliative care and community education. Working in this industry, she quickly learned that grief is more than death, but rather any form of loss. She believes it’s important to balance preparing for the future, learning from the past, and striving to be present in the moment.

The Tree of Life image has always been meaningful to Andrea. We are all connected to nature, and in order to branch out we must allow our roots to grow deeper.

Embracing this mantra of branching out, Tree of Life Counseling, LLC has expanded upon the concept of traditional care and service. We support people coping with or preparing for the ever-changing seasons of life. We work with those yearning for growth and healing, regardless of age or health condition. Services include mental health therapy, educational presentations and community workshops, and advance care planning.

The Long Version:

“My name is Andrea Lantz and I love trees. I have always yearned to understand more about why things are the way they are. I’ve been told since I was young, I ask too many questions, have too many ideas, and too focused on making this world a better place.

Fortunately for you, I no longer see my childlike curiosity, creativity, belief in something better will come and bouts of impulsivity as something to be ashamed of but rather embrace these parts of me as my gifts and powers because its often what fuels me to make some cool stuff happen.

I have grown from a little girl who liked to help people laugh and feel special and comfort animals to now being a woman who is passionate about supporting people on their unique journey to heal and love themselves. (Ok, I still love making people laugh and use it appropriately sometimes for some comic relief when doing some tough trauma work. I can turn almost any conversation into one about death and dying, sex or world peace as needed.)

I’ve always felt deeply connected to the earth. I believe this has helped me dig into my intuition and balance the demands of being an empath all my life.   After working in the field of palliative care for 13 years, I continued seeing patterns I felt called to intervene with sooner. I wanted to find a way to reduce unnecessary suffering. I bared witness to the damage unprocessed grief and trauma caused the body through illness and disease in addition to the negative impacts on relationships and ability to experience true peace, joy and pleasure.  I wanted to help patients cope with repressed abuse, trauma, and grief in addition to nourishing the hidden and avoided patterns of addiction, shame, fears and regrets.

That’s what led me to starting my own company in June of 2020, a week after abruptly losing my job. Getting fired was a blessing in disguise because I used to daydream for years about creating a healing space to do the things I get to now- walk and talk sessions while hiking in the woods, stretching in the sun, intuitive body work, eat, dance and draw with clients to name a few.

I am a human who  feels honored to teach, hold space for and witness other’s pain and getting to watch them become more embodied. I know a little bit about a lot of things and greatly value providing an integrative approach to holistic healing. I enjoy collaborating with others whether for a single referral or to work together in offering a workshop or future retreats.

Something I tell all my clients is that “what we resist, persists” and “we gotta feel it to heal it”. I believe one of the coolest things I get to do is supporting people in developing a relationship with their own body. I am devoted to supporting clients discovering the connection to the energy of their thoughts and emotions and how it is present in their body. This allows us to explore various attachments to so many parts of their lifespan development.

I don’t see me as the expert or that my clients need “fixed”. In fact, I see my clients as the expert on themselves. I see my role as that of a loving mirror to reflect back parts of them they can’t fully see yet so they can access their own healing powers already inside them.

I’m a social worker by trade, empath by birth and seeker of intuition and truth. I’m a recovering people pleaser and walk the path of many of my clients who want to embrace more being vs doing.  Although I’m intelligent enough to know world peace won’t happen in my lifetime, I’m also a chick who enjoys a good challenge and enjoys some natural hits of dopamine while feeling the small ripples of energy that are making a difference.”

Owner, Founder LCSW & Certified ACP Facilitator

Andrea feels the most alive and grounded when emersed in nature, especially when barefoot as able. She graduated from Indiana University and has her Master of Social Work. She has practiced as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2016. Her approach to therapy is you need to “feel it to heal it” and “what we resist, persists.”  She gets excited to talk about the mind-body connection, brain storm and explore ways to collaborate with other holistic providers. She was awarded the 2022 Indiana Social Worker of the Year by the National Association of Social Workers.

“Growth can happen until the moment of death. I’ve seen it, heard it, and felt it while working in the field of palliative care for over a decade.

This company was birthed from therapeutic skills and passion for more people to experience unique growth and healing journeys in their lives, regardless of age or health condition.

That’s why I continue to seek out providers and staff who also embrace this approach to your journey!”
